Prevailing Wage and Workforce Assessment Study (PWWAS)
The results of the 2016 Prevailing Wage and Workforce Assessment Study (PWWAS) are being made available in two
reports: The first one, this report, contains occupation titles and hourly wage statistics only while the second report
will cover workers’ demographics and other characteristics. This way, employers will have access to current
prevailing hourly wage rates in the Commonwealth right away while the second report is being prepared and made
available shortly. There is also going to be a third report comparing the three rounds of the CNMI PWWAS.
THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
This is the third round of the CNMI Prevailing Wage and Workforce Assessment Study. The first one was done in
2011 and the second one was done in 2014. The primary purpose of the Study remains the same: “to determine the
types of occupations that exist and measure occupation-specific hourly wage rate for each of the identified
occupations in the CNMI’s economy”. Secondarily, the Study assesses the CNMI’s workforce demographics. The
publication of prevailing wage rates in the CNMI became necessary after the implementation of the U.S. Public Law
110-229, which shifted the control of labor and immigration from the CNMI government to the Federal government.
