Chapter 8 – Visitors The Marianas Visitor Authority supplies the information on numbers of types of visitors, countries of origin, and other characteristics. The information here is through Fiscal Year 2013. More recent infor-mation will appear in the next yearbook or can be obtained directly from the Visitors Bureau. About 434,000 visitors came to the CNMI in 2013. Of these, Japan provided the most visitors (148,000) followed by Korea (135,000), U.S. and Guam (21,000), and others (129,000). The number of visitors from China has been increasing rapidly in recent years, and that trend continues. As of 2013, Japan and Korea visitors had been declining, as have those from the United States and Guam. Visitors from Russia were al-so increasing, although their numbers remained small compared to other major Asian country senders. The number of visitors in general decreased from 2004 until about 2011, when they started to increase again. In recent years, numbers arriving in the second and 4th quarters have been increasing or remaining constant, while those coming in the first and 3rd quarters have been declining. On average, between 2004 and 2013, January saw the largest number of visitors, followed by August, while the months of April through June, and September and October saw the lowest number of visitors. Tables show changes in numbers of visitors for Japan, Korea, and China separately. More recent figures are available from the Marianas Visitors Authority and will appear in the next year-book.
